Engage and Excel Spotlight Feature: Mavreen Ncube

This week, we are proud to celebrate Mavreen Ncube – psychotherapist, mental health advocate, trade union leader, and passionate champion for the wellbeing and rights of Black and migrant communities.

Mavreen has dedicated her career to supporting people experiencing some of life's most difficult challenges. As a psychotherapist working within the NHS and in private practice, she provides compassionate support to individuals living with complex mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, OCD and psychosis, helping them build resilience and move towards recovery.

Alongside her clinical work, Mavreen is a committed advocate for equality and justice. Through her leadership within UNISON's Women's and Black Members' Networks, she has contributed to national campaigns promoting fair treatment, workplace equality, and improved protections for migrant workers. Her advocacy reflects a deep belief that everyone deserves dignity, opportunity, and a voice.

At WEWN's recent Community Leaders meeting, Mavreen highlighted the importance of early mental health support, strong community connections, and positive role models for young people. She spoke passionately about the need to create safe spaces where families can talk openly about mental health, identity, racism, and belonging. These are issues that continue to affect children and young people growing up in the UK.

She also challenged communities to make better use of the wealth of talent that already exists within them. From scientists and entrepreneurs to nurses, educators and community leaders, Mavreen believes that by sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and working collaboratively, communities can unlock enormous potential for future generations.

In Her Words

"When we invest in the mental health and wellbeing of women, children and families, we build stronger, healthier and more resilient communities."

At WEWN, we celebrate women like Mavreen whose compassion, expertise and advocacy are creating lasting change. Through her commitment to mental health, equality and community empowerment, she continues to inspire others to lead with empathy, courage and purpose.
